The CEREC Difference

TMJ Treatment

Dr. Arthur Manzo has studied extensively to become a leading TMJ splint therapist in the Redwood City and Palo Alto area. The temporomandibular joints (TMJ) or jaw joints are a source of pain and dysfunction for about 15 percent of Americans. TMJ disorders can result in pain in the area of the jaw and associated muscles, migraine headaches and limitations in the ability to make the normal movements required in speech, facial expression, eating, chewing, and swallowing.

Using precision instruments, Dr. Manzo performs careful analysis of bite alignment, joint structure, and other factors such as excessive clenching and grinding that can injure your teeth or strain your TMJ.  Dr. Manzo’s patients benefit from a variety of therapies, including tooth restoration and fixed or removable bite splints to help restore balance between the teeth, muscles, and joints. Dr. Manzo uses a new generation of bite appliances made possible by modern custom plastics technology. They help relax the jaw muscles, avoiding damage to the teeth, and alleviating pain.

The team at Manzo Dental would like to help you if you suffer from a TMJ disorder. We encourage you to contact our Palo Alto-area dental practice in Redwood City to learn more about our state-of-the-art TMJ treatment techniques.

Laser Dentistry

Dr. Arthur Manzo is helping to introduce the new field of laser dentistry at his Redwood City practice serving the Palo Alto area. Lasers have been used for several years in a variety of general surgical procedures. Now, the soft tissue laser is revolutionizing the treatment of a whole range of gum diseases , improving a dentist’s ability to provide expert, effective periodontal care.

The Laser Dentistry Advantage

With laser dentistry, a beam of high-intensity light replaces the scalpel and other metal instruments for the delicate work in some of the most sensitive areas of the mouth. The use of a laser rather than traditional, handheld instruments ensures greater accuracy and safety when performing a dental procedure. Patients who undergo laser dentistry treatment will notice less pain during treatment and, depending on the extent of the work required, will often not require anesthesia during treatment. In addition, patients will also notice less bleeding and post-procedural swelling following a laser dentistry treatment.

If you’ve put off dealing with gum disease because the treatment seems worse than the problem, contact Manzo Dental and learn the benefits of laser dentistry. The staff at our Redwood City office serving the Palo Alto area will be happy to answer any questions you may have about laser periodontal treatment.

Sedation Dentistry

Have you been living with dental problems because of a fear of treatment? There is a solution. Dr. Arthur Manzo offers oral conscious sedation dentistry for his many patients in the Redwood City and Palo Alto area.

Physicians have used oral sedation for years. For many procedures, your doctor wouldn’t think of working without it, but most dentists ask you to endure the anxiety and discomfort of their procedures without the sedation option. Dr. Manzo is different. He has obtained the extra training and state certification to offer oral conscious sedation dentistry at his practice.

How does sedation dentistry work?

Sedation dentistry begins before coming to our office. You will first take a pill that will begin to take the edge off your anxiety and help prepare you for the next day. You won’t be able to drive for 24 hours, so be sure to arrange a ride. Once here, you’ll receive a pill, lie back and let the medication take full effect. You’ll still be conscious, but you’ll be completely relaxed and unable to feel any pain. Some patients are barely aware of the procedure taking place, and report that the experience was wonderful.

The CEREC Difference

Restoring damaged teeth with crowns, veneers, inlays, and onlays used to require multiple appointments, long waits while dental labs prepared ceramics, and bothersome temporary fillings and crowns. Not at Manzo Dental!

We are proud to be one of a select few dental practices nationwide to offer the advanced CEREC 3D milling system. This new on-site, CEREC Blue Cam computerized system designs beautiful, durable, natural-looking fillings, crowns, and veneers while you wait, often in an hour.

How does CEREC work?

First the CEREC 3D system makes digital images of your teeth using a specialized, high-precision Blue Cam camera. A very fast computer then uses these virtual images to design a custom restoration for you, matching the exact fit and shade of your natural teeth. Finally, the milling unit produces your new ceramic restoration while you wait. Dr. Manzo then easily bonds the new fully glazed and correctly shaded restoration to your tooth and your dental work is complete!

Why is CEREC better?

CEREC 3D system hardwareCEREC restorations offer numerous advantages over traditional methods. They are convenient and time saving – no more dental impressions, temporary fillings, waiting on crowns, or repeat visits. Patients can come to our office with a broken or damaged tooth and go home ready to eat their favorite foods. The precision from exact virtual images taken with the Blue Cam produce a near perfect fit. In addition, ceramic restorations are a gentle, conservative approach to tooth restoration. They preserve more of your tooth’s natural structure and actually leave the tooth stronger than it was before. The adhesive bonding also tightly seals the ceramic like no other cement in dentistry, eliminating any risk of infection from gapping or invading germs.

Our porcelain-ceramic veneers and crowns are so natural looking that no one will be able to tell the difference between your restored teeth and your natural teeth! Beautiful CEREC restorations can outlast all other types of restorations, including gold, and prevent costly future repairs.

How long does it take?

Most CEREC crowns, veneers, and inlays can be completed in just one appointment – in about an hour to an hour and a half. This ease is made possible because Dr. Manzo has complete chairside control over the fabrication with the aid of the computerized CEREC system.

How much does it cost?

CEREC restorations cost about the same as gold inlays and porcelain over metal crowns.

How long will my new restorations last?

Since CEREC is pure dental ceramic, it will not break down in the mouth’s saliva or with normal chewing. This means that CEREC restorations can outlast metal inlays and crowns – lasting many many years without need for replacement.
